I am a William R. Wiley Distinguished postdoctoral fellow in the Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. The focus of my research is to understand the role of nanopores and surface roughness on heterogeneous ice nucleation in the atmosphere. I utilize a range of characterize techniques including infrared spectroscopy and in situ transmission electron microscopy. As a member of the Microscopy group in EMSL, a DOE national user facility, I also work with both internal and external users on their materials characterization projects.

My graduate work under the supervision of Prof. Derk Joester in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Northwestern University focused on understanding the nature of the interaction between organic biomolecules and the inorganic mineral phase in mineralized biological tissues such as teeth and bone. Using a range of characterization techniques, including atom probe tomography and synchrotron X-ray absorption spectroscopy I discovered an amorphous intergranular film in tooth enamel.
